Addictions, or Substance Use Disorders, involve the intake of a substance(s) by an individual despite the presence of significant physical, personal, occupational, educational, and/or financial problems related to their substance use(1). Individuals who suffer from an Addiction tend to display lower levels of self-control which may reflect impairment in the inhibitory mechanisms of the brain. Addictions and Substance Use Disorders can last a lifetime and are highly resistant to change. Medications prescribed to treat Addictions and Substance Use Disorders commonly carry the side effects of: abnormally low blood pressure, nausea, joint and muscle pain, headaches, anxiety, insomnia, night wakenings, drowsiness, diarrhea, and giant hives(2).

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, neurological treatment for Addictions and Substance Use Disorders. Research supports the use of neurofeedback for the treatment of Addictions and Substance Use Disorders(3) without the risk of serious adverse side effects(4). Studies report abstinence rates of 77%(5) and 81%(6) after neurofeedback treatment and continued periods of sobriety for at least 12, 78, and 91 months after the completion of treatment.
